'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the thrilling dying seconds of his team's remarkable turnaround triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a fan's glasses after the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative effort from distance, and his teammate promptly slammed home the rebound before charging toward the home end to mark the goal, with supporters congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This sealed an incredible turnaround given Swansea had found themselves down 2-0 midway through the second half. In the celebrations, there was some collateral damage. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win booked a next round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had an excellent perspective when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with Jamie Donley's volley from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that range," stated Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right defensive wing after Orient changed tactics. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way the underdogs attacked the game.

City's Quality

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they always find their target and they understand how to control and neutralize a game. You can feel you're doing well and then abruptly they will just thread a ball through a line without you even spotting it. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It takes a strong mentality and attention just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He made a name as a fans' favourite across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has quickly achieved similar status in south Wales. At Orient he reunited with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a slightly green going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without real physicality. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

He has shown that maturation for club and country, excelling for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including both legs games against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Early Days

This marks an incredible journey for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside Belfast, who used to see his father, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

His only game for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they competed on an synthetic surface and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to the weather of bitter cold. "That proved to be a extended travel and it was cold out there," he says, grinning. "The week before, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

How hard was it to leave United, the club he transferred from aged a teenager? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I reached the point where I understood I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm hugely grateful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I felt I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

New Environment

It is the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the young professional was a constant rider in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a small coach driven by team personnel, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, another squad member, an Ivorian player – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to interact with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the next one to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. His teammate enjoys practical jokes; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with supporters on public transport after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
